Corpse Bride Cosplay

I loved this movie and I really wanted to do Victor and Emily as a couple’s Halloween costume with my boyfriend. However, since the Corpse Bride dress that I ordered online was predictably horrible and cheap-looking, I decided to make my own instead!

I started by cutting the costume apart into pieces I could work with. I used the bottom half of the dress as a skirt by adding elastic to the waistband, and cut the rib applique out to use in my own bodice.

For my bodice, I tea-stained some white lace to make it look old and antique-y. I brushed the fabric here and there with black body paint to make it look dirty, and layered some pretty blue trim under the silver beaded lace around the edge. Then I cut around the applique with a straight razor to make it look like the dress and skin had torn open to reveal my ribs underneath.

Next, I took apart the “veil” of the original costume, separating the white gauze from the cheap-looking tiara thing that was meant to serve as the headpiece. I used the gauze to attach to my own flower headband, which I made by hot-gluing some blue and violet flowers from Michaels onto a headband.

And here’s the finished result! This was the first time I made a significant part of a Halloween costume myself, and I’m quite proud of it!

The makeup took SO LONG to apply, and despite applying a setting powder, it rubbed off on EVERYTHING I touched! I DEFINITELY need to find better body paint and makeup for next time! I wasn’t all that happy with how the makeup contouring turned out either, but I got tons of compliments anyway :3
